{"id":186,"date":"2015-04-10T10:30:05","date_gmt":"2015-04-10T14:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/harrisweb.ca\/blog\/?p=186"},"modified":"2015-04-10T11:52:30","modified_gmt":"2015-04-10T15:52:30","slug":"why-design-a-mobile-website-for-your-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.harrisweb.ca\/blog\/why-design-a-mobile-website-for-your-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Design a Mobile Website for your Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mobile Friendly Websites<\/strong> are becoming\u00a0increasingly important in today&#8217;s highly mobile world. <em>UPDATE: as of April 2015 Google will use Mobile Friendliness as a ranking factor for websites in search.<\/em> Did you know that worldwide more websites are accessed via mobile devices than desktop computers. \u00a0Until now (2013) the number of people accessing the web with mobile devices in North America has been less than 50% but,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/newsroom\/id\/1278413\" target=\"_blank\">according to Gartner\u00a0\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0this will change &#8211;\u00a0more people will use mobile phones than PCs to get online.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what you ask?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Google,( you know, the guys that will buy the planet Earth in 2036&#8230;[I just made that up]),\u00a072 percent of mobile users say it\u2019s important to them that websites are<a href=\"http:\/\/searchenginewatch.com\/article\/2188662\/Mobile-Landing-Page-Optimization-10-Best-Practices-for-Success\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0mobile-friendly,<\/a> yet 96 percent have visited a site that\u00a0doesn&#8217;t\u00a0work well on their device.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It gets worse&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/harrisweb.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/3320503_s.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-190\" title=\"3320503_s\" src=\"http:\/\/harrisweb.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/3320503_s-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Business Woman frustrated with smartphone\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Where&#8217;s the freeking&#8217; Website!&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Only about 17% of users will stick around if your site is not mobile-friendly while 79% will just search for your competitors site&#8230;I guess the other 4% just give up or didn&#8217;t understand the question. \u00a055% of\u00a0respondents\u00a0who had frustrating experiences with a website say that it hurts their opinion of the company as a whole.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The good news is&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your site is optimized for mobile use, almost 75% of\u00a0respondents\u00a0say they would revisit your site again &#8211;\u00a0yippee!<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what does it cost?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More good news &#8211; most mobile websites can be developed for between \u00a0$250 and $500, pretty small potatoes compared to what you spend on your main website.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>So what do users want in a mobile friendly site?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fast Fast Fast, you got 5 seconds &#8211; GO!<\/li>\n<li>BIG BUTTONS you should be able to push with your nose<\/li>\n<li>NO sideways scrolling, it should all fit the device\u00a0width<\/li>\n<li>Put live links to phone and email on the landing page with a Google Map link to a live map<\/li>\n<li>Have a\u00a0dropdown menu page for sites with more than 3 pages<\/li>\n<li>Pay close attention to responsive design, the website should look good in all sizes and dimensions<\/li>\n<li>Clean, clear, concise design is the way to go.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Strike while the iron is hot &#8211;
